Are you really sure? Didn't install anything? I know with the pagefile it can grow a few GB but not that many...................Vista getting bigger?
ye im sure and i remembered someone mentioned thats its growing because of the system restore point and maybe i said too much but like 1-2 gb for sure and like 200 k files lol and i have no viruses and its vista home premium 32
There are several sorts of temp files that can grow like that, also alot of trojan horse type viruses could cause this.
I recently cleared out my old system restore points and got back 200GB of storage.
Grab an app like CCLeaner and remove the crud from your system.
system restore is a right drive hog. also hibernation files come to nearly a gig (dont delete these though) not to mention windows updates etc.
LOL 200GB yea I believe you...
backup files.open command prompt.type **** C:works like a charm
LOL 200GB yea I believe you...
Okay it was more like 150GB. 15% of 1TB drive. Oh well you'll get over it. ;)

And more then a dozen of the latest games installed. I still don't believe you...
LOL..........pics or it didn't happen :P I disable System restore so meh...........
Like I said I deleted them recently. Like I also said it uses 15% of the drive...
Where is threepac to accept ownage? :D
Vista's system restore files are going to grow amazingly fast if you're setting up the machine, or adding new software. They should always be the first thing you look at if you see your HDD shrinking for no reason. Now that I've also given you the command to type in to an administrator prompt you can test it for yourself.
To be perfectly honest I wasn't expecting to have lost 80GB already. I guess the few games I installed recently got it back up there really fast. :)
Wait, what are the system restore files?
system restore is to restore your computer to a previous state.. you can turn it on and offgo to my computer>system properties>system protection>system protection tab and it will tell you what restore points you have for what drives...the reason it can take up alot of gb is cause a new system restore point is created every time you install something which acknowledge's you have on system restore, there is also a feauture for vista to make a new one every 24 hrs .. oh and i also heard it could also restore some viruses so you should take it off before a scan..
Grab an app like CCLeaner and remove the crud from your system.
be sure to get the slim version without the toolbar cause some security apps like norton detect the toolbar as malware.. hope i helped:)
k turned it off
k turned it off
Always seems like a good idea until you need it. :)
it is wise if you manually make a restore point and name it something like Clean State after a virus scan cause a virus could make one as the default restore point name so if your computer gets messed up by a virus you can restore it to a stable state and turn system restore off and run a scan its worked for me in the past :) but some viruses like Ciadoor turn off system restore:(...if a few gb is too much to one day save your computer, your the virus.. cause system restore helped me in the past
