I will get a new PC, wondering about pro ...

So I am going to buy a new PC and when I went to the PC store I saw one with an Intel processor Q6600 CORE2Q 2.40GHz. But a friend yold me that processor was going to die in 4 months. So I would like to know about a good processor for everything (games, normal work and photoshop designs). thank you.I will get a new PC, wondering about pro ...
a q6600 is one of the best all around processor, and it wont die in 4 months. it is also probaly the best one for your needs without getting too expensiveyour friend is an idiot I will get a new PC, wondering about pro ...
I very highly doubt that the Q6600 will die in four months unless you go crazy with the Vcore. Sure, they may stop producing the things in four months as they transition to Core i7/Nehalem, but it's not like all Q6600s worldwide will fail systematically in four months.

You may want to look into the Q9550 or Q9650, though-they're based on the newer 45nm architecture, which makes them run cooler. They also perform better clock-for-clock due to architectural improvements, and also have the SSE4 instruction set. However, they're certainly more expensive than the Q6600.

Also, someone will eventually suggest to get the E8400 or some other 45nm dual-core in the Q6600's price range. These CPUs will overclock much better than a Q6600 due to not generating nearly as much heat, as well as having the various architectural enhancements and SSE4. However, they'll probably still perform worse in any apps that can make full use of the Q6600, especially if said Q6600 is overclocked to its limit (anywhere from 3.2 to 3.6 GHz with good cooling). The majority of games and other apps do not use more than two cores at this point, but that will change as time passes. You will also want to consider how much you multitask between demanding apps-if you want to run two demanding programs at the same time, one of them harnessing two cores fully, a dual-core would be limited whereas a quad-core could pick up the extra slack and not hamper either app.
Follow this rule and ignore everyone else...for gaming get a quad core if you are willing to overclock or if you just have lots of money. If you dont want to overclock and have to spend sensibly then get a 3Ghz'ish duel core!
The Q6600 is a very good processor. Don't listen to your friend.

I know several people who have a q6600, its pretty standard. I also have one, It runs all of my games, apps, anything. never crashes. and I dont know anybody with one thats had it fail or any problems. its a good processor, best value for the money.
