Help me with a little problem

I posted this in another forum as well but I wondered if anyone here know's what's wrong..So for a while I've been having problems with My DVD drive. it is a:

Pioneer DVR-1810, 18x18 Maximum DVD writing Speed.

Basically when I plug it in, I cannot run disks from it in windows. When the disk is inserted it basically slows my computer down, Explorer stops responding until I remove the disk then my computer starts running normal again.

Why I ask though, is because I CAN install windows with it. I just did the other day, I plug in the drive install windows like normal, and it acts as if nothing is wrong. It only has problems when Windows is actually running. (windows xp BTW)

I also cannot run 2 hard drive from the same IDE cable either so I'm wondering whether it's a problem with my drive or my motherboard. Even though the 2 hard drives could simply be jumper settings I'm not sure..

Any help would be appreciated. Should I run out to Best Buy and buy a new drive or not. I don't want to if it's a problem with my mobo..

Thanks!

PC Specs.
mobo Gigabyte S-series Nvidia 6100
AMD X2 Dual Core 5200+
2 Gig Ram
2 150gb HD's
Video Card NVidia 8600 GT

Help me with a little problem
its either the system board or the cable..Help me with a little problem
Probably the boot order or a jumper setting wrong, try with one HD and the DVD drive, make sure jumpers are set ok..
yeah try that..

And I think I've tried that before, and when I do that, the Hard drive stops working also. so the problem is just completely perplexing me...

Well turns out it was the drive after all. It's to the points where it kinda works, the reason I could install windows, but it won't work while windows is running. I got my hands on another drive and it does work, so I know no it's not the cable or motherboard, thanks everyone who tried to help!
