so i was recently going to buy a motherboard (MSI P7N FI) but as soon as i saw this biostar TP P45 H mobo it really caught my eye specially for its price and its 1600Mhz and beyond overclockability..This seems perfect since im going to throw an E8400 wich i think it could easily go to 3.8Ghz on air with this mobo...but do you think its a reliable company also what wuold be better an HD4670 or an EVGA 9600GTto go with te set. thanks in advance. Biostar motherboard...is it realiable?
anyone?Biostar motherboard...is it realiable?
I love the BioStar TPower I45 - it's one of the few motherboards I've been able to stabilise at 555MHz FSB (which is pretty special - only six boards in the world can do that, and most of them are at least double the price!) I can clock an E8600 to about 4.7GHz on an I45, but it ran HOT (so not a 24/7 overclock, but it was nice to know it could go that high). Naturally, I'd go with the HD4870 (as 1. I'm incredibly biased towards ATi, and B. The board supports CrossFireX, so if you wanna' get another card down the line, you can!)
However, on the other hand, the voltage settings and increases are incredibly ridiculous - it jumps by silly amounts, whatever happened to increasing in small increments? Because of this, it usually overvolts the CPU - I'm fairly confident I could've kept my CPU at 4.7GHz if I could've found the tightest possible voltage to just about stabilise it. :( Make sure you speak to Artie (artiedeadat40) - he has a BioStar TPower I45 as well, and he, unlike me, has incredibly bad experiences with his one. He's also one of the small number of people on this forum who knows what he's on about. :D
In a nutshell:
BioStar TPower I45
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400/E8500/E8600
ATi RADEON HD4870
(Suitable motherboard alternatives would be the ASUS Rampage Formula, ASUS P5K Wifi-AP and ASUS P5Q). :D

i have had a biostar mobo short out on me and it took some other components with it
get the 4870 as not only will u be able to crossfire its a good deal more powerful then the 9600gt.
get the 4870 as not only will u be able to crossfire its a good deal more powerful then the 9600gt.
i changed my mind and know im going with a sapphire HD3870 since it overclocks really well then later on im going to Xfire them

Biostar are some of the best boards out there now, affordable too.

Im selling mine now. I hate it with a passion. The Asus P5Q deluxe is $20 more and the Gigabyte UD3P is less. The Biostar Tpower I45 is not cheap and has NO bios support. Its a solid board but the bios is horrific. The increments in vcore are 0.05 which is huge, you cant fine tune the GTLs which is very important especilly for a quad, and there are just tons of standard bios options missing from this board. For the money there are better boards with better bios support out there. One more thing volt for volt this board is a poor clocker, but some people seem to love this thing (I dont know why). Even my Everest benchs were poor compared to my P5Q. It also dosent like memory overclocking or its just very picky with ram, very.
Get an Asus P5Q ProBiostar has the worst CPU placement on thier motherboards and the voltage options are ridiculous.
I've had ok experiences with Biostar, I did have one burn out on me only a week into use. I've used Gigabyte ever since and have not had a problem.
I retract my statement about the Gigabyte ud3p. I wouldnt pick that up. At least untill I hear moe about it. Apparently its been dieing and taking chips with it.

Well, I did fry my P7N diamond, somehow. All in all I did have a good experience with my P7N, for an nforce board. I would recomend that you dont get an nforce board. The biostar board ran stable. I just didnt get the results that Im getting from my P5Q Deluxe thats only $20 more and I really didnt like the bios options. I think it was the lack of bios support that put me off from that board. I couldnt see running a quad on it, but I have seen alot of good results on it. The memory clocking was bad. I hear that from alot of peple as well. I couldnt get 850mhz 4-4-4-12 like I did with my P7N and I couldnt come close to the 1100mhz 5-5-5-15 that Im getting with my P5Q Deluxe.

Take those Newegg reviews with a huge grain of salt, most of those poeple dont know what they are talking about. Keep in mind Asus customer service is among the worst in the buisness. They make a great product, though. There is no such thing as a perfect motherboard. Every board has its own issues. How much of an overclock are you looking for?
and which cpu are you using? Is it that q9300 in your sig? Also are you using that DDR3 ram in you sig?
