ASUS P5q Pro, need sdram memory advice

I asked my IT at work, and he says I should get PC2 9600 DDR2 1200mhz for this type of motherboard. I googled ddr2 800 vs ddr2 1200, and I found out I only need PC2 9600 if I'm going to overclock.I have an ASUS P5q pro and it says the standard memory is PC2 9600 1200 MHZ. Is this a big deal? Seconded on the DDR2 800, it's perfectly dfast enough unless you are into overclocking.
