Ok, so I have: Q6600 overclocked to 3.0ghz a thermaltake maxorb cooler 2 antec tri-cool case fans 2 stock apevia case fans all inside an apevia x-plorer case(Also I have a P5K SE, HD4870 and a 750W PSU if needed).I recently changed the fans, because I used to only have all stock. I have one Antec fan as an exhaust on the back on high, and the other on the side of the case which blows air pretty much straight at the maxorb. I then have one Apevia fan blowing air out of the top and one sucking air through the front. (I should say the front of the case is poorly designed with about 2 slits for airflow) The temps used to be about 38 idle and 62-65 under stress testing but I was playing bioshock today and when I alt-tabbed out to see how the temps were I saw that the first core was 80! So i freaked out and redid the thermalpaste and readjusted the fan... But I'm looking at my temps now and they're 52 idle... I don't want to stress test them at the moment...So I'm wondering if anyone would be able to tell me if theres anything that could help me in this situation, could it be the positioning of the fans? The two stock fans pretty much blow as much air as the tricool on low... Also the case is pretty much split in two because the two stock fans are towards the front and the rest at the back... Sorry about all the writing! Also thanks for any help! Q6600 heating up :(
I'm actually starting to think it could be the temp monitor in the CPU? Surely at 80 degrees my computer would have crashed right? I know that whenever it has reached 70 degrees while stress testing it's crashed... (Normally when it gets near 70 I have been changing settings to be safe.Q6600 heating up :(
is it 80c or 80F

whats your cpu vcore
Bios update?
How much thermal paste did you use? Remember, you only need a wafer thin layer. It seems odd because my Q6600 is clocked at 3GHz on a stock Intel fan baking nicely inside a mATX case with a 4870 and it's only reaching 58 degrees playing FSX which is pretty much maxing all the cores.
I think I'm just going to try reseating the maxorb again, which is a pain in the neck because it's so big, but vcore is 1.26.I'll have to reseat it tomorrow or some other time. I don't see how it could have spiked up so high without touching the fan in the first place though.@tautitan: I (think) put on the reccomended amount for AS5, I'll have to double check. Also, I'm really not sure about my bios :P will updating change temps?
make sure your fan is running sounds dumb but check everything
Sounds dumb? Noooo! But seriously, I will look, is there a way to check what speed my fans running at? like 60% etc?*First custom build PC* EDIT: Also, with thermal paste, is it best to spread it yourself or just let the heatsink spread it?
google HWMONITOR its the best one says all your fan speed hdd temp gpu temp
Thanks everybody, I'll reseat it and do some other stuff, if It's still crazy in the morning I guess I'll post here again :/
What program are you using to check your temps? I would recommend HWmonitor like the other person said. Don't use Speedfan - unreliable.
Make sure you remove the plastic guard on the bottom of the cooler :) May sound idiotic, but you'd be surprised how many people forget to remove the protective screen on the copper bottom of the CPU HS and add the thermal paste, boot it up and don't know why they are getting such high temps
