Choosing a graphics card question

What card do i need to play games like the witcher or mass effect on high with a 22 inch lcd.the rest of my rig is probably an e8400, 2 or 3 gigs of ram, and an intel p35i don't want to get a 4870 or GTX280 because those are too expensivei have been thinking mostly about 9800GT, 9800GTX+ OC, and 4850Choosing a graphics card question
A 4850 is a fine card and will play most games on near top settings. The only difference between that and the 4870 is the memory speed AFAIK. You might want to get an aftermarket cooler though they tend to get a little warm.Choosing a graphics card question
Mass Effect will work fine with any of the cards you mention at 1680x1050. The Witcher on the other hand has some hefty requirements if you want to max it out. I had a 9800GT that couldn't come close to maxing the visuals at 1680x1050 (let alone my native resolution of 1920x1200). I recently chucked in a EVGA GTX260 Core 216 Superclocked and the game runs perfectly with everything maxed at 1920x1200.
4850 is enough for Witcher at 16x10. I tried the demo, the frame rate does drop a bit some, but my CPU is gimping it as well... Was always playable though.

gtx 260
does the overheating cause problems though?because if i need a new cooler i'd rather just go with the 9800GTX+im buying a pre built this time partially for the reason that my 3850 was overheating and doing all kinds of junk so i want this card to work VERY WELL

If you don't want to spend that much - get a 4850.

Mine runs fine with the stock cooler bumped up a little from default speed. Actually it does fine at default, its supposed to be able to take temps upto 100c.
