The longer answer is it depends on how much RAM the notebook already has. It also depends on how easy the RAM slots are to access (based on your skill level). For example some notebooks have the RAM slots hidden under the keyboard.Can RAM be added on laptop?
my old toshiba had a port on the bottom, real easy to get to. i'd say yes but before you buy make sure there is an open ram slot and that your laptop can handle an upgrade.
If you know how to use basic tools, such as a screwdriver, then you should be fine. I've upgraded RAM on at least a dozen laptops with hardly any problems. As noted by z4twenny, sometimes the RAM slots are under the keyboard as well. If you can get the keyboard off, usually the first thing you will see is the RAM slot. Most of the time I find them on the bottom of the laptop under one of the clearly labelled and easy to remove panels.
