Beware of SLI

SLI is the most worthless, Costly, and annoying crap brought to computer gaming. I bought a brand new computer with 2 8800GT's in it and i thought i was going to kick the crap out of some games. I have only used SLI for one game and that was Crysis. Crysis in the only reason SLI and Crossfire was invented. Sure you only get about 7-10 more fps for that extra graphics card. IT MAKES LIKE 90 PERCENT OF THE GAMES YOU PLAY SLOWER AND BUGGIER. IF IT DOES WORK YOU CAN BARELY NOTICE AND HAVE TO RUN FRAPS JUST TO TELL YOU THAT YOUR AWESOME. DONT EVER BUY SLI. ITS just a very expensive gimmic. I dont care what anyone says.Beware of SLI
Rant noted... Beware of SLI
From what ive seen 8800GT's in SLi seem worth it, i mean if you already have one and have a sli board your probably better off getting another GT rather than a 260 or a 4870. On the other hand buying a PC straight off with SLi seems quite foolish in my oppinion your better off geting one GTX 260 or GTX 280 if you have an nvidia chipset.
I bought this computer in about febraury of this year before the 9 series came out. But still sli = junk. Just buy one good single card and youll be alright. Plus you can blow that extra moolah on a diff stuff for your computer.
8800GT 2-way SLI =9800GX2
I bet that card probably runs better buy itself. These people are all liars trying to sell cards for manufacturers.
I dont understand why to bay SLI or CF systems runs great with one card (exemple:9800GX2 hes a great card even now)CF/SLI need also more power and its more money...not worth at all!!!
I dont understand why to bay SLI or CF systems runs great with one card (exemple:9800GX2 hes a great card even now)
The 9800GX2 does use SLI, it's just done on the card itself.
SLI was invented long before crysis was even thought of , have you thought that the games you play dont support SLI? In my old Pc i had a 6600gt and i got another 1 to play oblivion and it ran ok ...... until it overheated and melted a part off lol , the best thing ive learnt from PC gaming is to wait a month before you go buy parts to play a game that just came out either it will be $100 cheaper or another part has come out
That's another part of the problem. SLI has been around for awhile and most games dont support the crap. That means, that the developers can get the game to run just fine on one card. I wish i would of spent that extra 250 (at the time) on a faster processor, or a single better card. Just trying to save you guys some money and some headache. Now my computer isnt the best thing out there. But i like my computer because its mine. I worked for it. Im sure some people would love to have my pc.SL LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SLi when working properly is a good solution for some gamers out there. not everyone, but some. Crysis, (sigh) is a poor game to measure by, and when using SLi with a game make sure you have your settings in NVIDIA control panel right. SLi not working or working poorly is generally user error. sorry to burst your rage bubble but it is. the performance gains under certain SLi setups per $ spent can be quite viable considering high end card costs. your one bad experience does not all of a sudden invalidate my good experience, or any of the other 1000s of peoples good experiences. so please dont try and save us any money.
enjoy your SLI as you can (seriously) try to make it better with OC or something
Thats what I am talking about. Headaches. Now you are gonna try and act cool and say its easy, and sometimes it is. But screwing around with your computer for 2 hours to get the best out of each games is a HEADACHE. I know RHASMUS the all knowing computer god could do it in 5 minutes, but the rest of use who have lives shouldnt have TO SPEND ALL DAY TRYING O MAKE SOMETHING THEY BOUGHT TO WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SL LIE!!!!!!!!!!!
i never said i was some type of all knowing guru, but the fact of the matter is for many of us SLi works very well, and so do CF setups. i have never spent 2 hours trying to get SLi to work properly, so most likely the problem lies with you, the user. perhaps if you put all that rage to use trying to figure out the solution to your problem instead of coming to an internet forum to cry about it you wouldnt have needed to post in the first place.

I'm not crying. I'm just telling people to save their money they might spend on that extra gpu and buy a a better single card. What are you running RHASMUS?
Hello all, just joined the forums to say something. Have been looking around for 8800GT/9800GT/SLi benchmark comparisons and have noticed something extremely important that is relevant here too.It is important to update your drivers, since they do affect the performance of SLi. I say this because almost all benchmarks on the 'net right now comparing 9800s are incorrect for several games. Why? Because nVidia just released new drivers that actually increases performance in some main-stream games. Thus, if these benchmarks were run with older drivers, there would be a significant difference. The 178.24 driver was released on October 15, 2008. It provides the following improvements to SLi (and non-SLi) systems, according to their website:Single GPU increases up to 11% in 3DMark Vantage (performance preset)Single GPU increases up to 11% in Assassin's Creed DX10Single GPU increases up to 15% in Bioshock DX10Single GPU increases up to 15% in Call of Duty 4Single GPU increases up to 8% in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars2-way SLI increases up to 7% in Bioshock DX102-way SLI increases up to 10% in Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts DX102-way SLI increases up to 12% in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars2-way SLI increases up to 10% in World in Conflict DX10Update your drivers, and call me in the morning. BTW, I'm planning on gettin' another 9800 GT for SLi.

In all hoesnty CF has been good to me so far :)
