Thanks alot for the link, Much appreciated. Need 547W.
When you did that did you pick quad sockets? yours cpu is a single socket cpu(the dual and quad at that stage mean physical cpu slots), just checking you entered it right :P. (547W seemed a bit high)
Yeah i though 547w was pretty high too..

4 X 1GB work on an MSI Neo-F P35?
I have an MSI Neo-F P35 currently with 2GB ram (2 x 1GB). Now I have the option to add another 2GB of the same ram making 4 x 1GB. Does anyone know if I'll have problems or if it'll work fine? Also getting a CPU Cooler at the same time to bump my overclock up to 3.6 to 3.8Ghz if that makes a difference. Thanks for any replies.4 X 1GB work on an MSI Neo-F P35?
I think it would be better if you have 2x2GB sticks rather than 4x1GB. I heard many MB have problems with stability when they have all four 4X1GB.Anyway just want to ask you, I am thinking of getting E5200 but I don't know if I will need a BIOS update. I am planing on using the same Mobo as you. And if I will need a BIOS update, do I need another CPU to boot my PC, or is there some other way I can update the BIOS?Ty for any help:D 4 X 1GB work on an MSI Neo-F P35?
it will work because i use 4x1gb ocz but you will need to up the north bridge to 1.5v if your bus is on 400fsb
Yeah I had to update my BIOS as I couldn't adjust voltages otherwise. I did it via an MSI software utility you download from their website, takes 5 mins max. My CPU runs fine now and the motherboard is great!:) Strangely though updating the BIOS mde my CPU multiplier go from standard 12.5 to 12 and I can't make it any higher now. Not a problem if overclocking! Also my FSB won't be touching 400, maximum will be just over 300 to get me 3.6 - 3.8Ghz I think, no more than about 315 so should be OK. Thanks for the replies.
Ty for replying but I want to know when you put the E5200 in, did the mobo recognise it straight away? Cause I heard that if Mobo dosen't recognise you need another CPU so you can start up the computer and update the bios.Ty
Worked fine out of the box, would be fine at stock speeds only updated due to wanting to control the voltage for my overclock. The MSI Neo-F comes with a '45nm sticker' on the box and Version 1.6 BIOS. I needed version 1.9 (latest) to fix my problem though!:)
Ty for the help man.I am getting MSI P35 NEO2-FR and E5200 soon. Was a little bit worried about the BIOS but not I am relaxedTy:)

Problems with Adobe Flash Player 10
Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'll give it a shot. When I turned my computer on yesterday I was prompted to upgrade to a new version of Adobe flash player. I agreed and went about my normal routine but wasn't prompted by anything to choose a language, or complete the download but I didn't notice anything until I tried watching a video on Youtube.I clicked the youtube link that was directing me to download flash player and I accepted everything there but once again, after having accepted the installation, no loader bar appeared, the screen just refreshed saying that it was installed...but still, it won't work.So I tried to uninstall whatever version my computer had to re-download, but the only thing appearing in m programs for adobe is reader and shockwave.I tried to download player 9 but I still can't get any response.anyone have any ideas?Problems with Adobe Flash Player 10

upgrading dell dimension 5150
alrite allthinking of upgrading my current pc dell dimension 5150pent 4 3.2g1g ramati radeon x600.i cant really afford a whole new set up, just lookin to upgrade the above.any recommendations ????upgrading dell dimension 5150
X600? I'm assuming that you have a PCI-E rig,in thta case, you can pick up a 8600GT or HD 2600XT for around $100,add in another Gig of RAM (If you have a DDR2 motherboard) is about $20.upgrading dell dimension 5150
kool man, cheers, il check that gphx card out.
does the motherboard and processor not need upgraded, got about ?00 to spend on it all.
does the motherboard and processor not need upgraded, got about ?00 to spend on it all.
You can't get a much better CPU without getting a new motherboard, and Dell's don't allow motherboard upgrade's,i don't know much about UK prices, but with a bit more money,a new PC is surely possible.
yeah your probably right. thanks for the advice. think il just save up and build a new one.
Once he picks up the larger video card will he also have to upgrade his power supply??I have the same situation need to upgrade video card for newer games on the same system but i have upgraded already to 2.5gb ram(which does increase alot) but still not good enough for some games..:(

19 or 20 Inch Monitor...
What is a good 19 or 20 inch monitor to get for $250 or less? I realize that most budget LCD monitors have TN panels, but I'm not willing to spend $400+ to get an IPS panel. I would like a monitor that is adequate for playing games obviously, but I also use my monitor extensively for word processing work and web browsing, so it's important that I can read text easily. I don't quite have 20/20 vision, so having larger text is a bonus. I have an 8800GTS 512MB GPU paired with an E8400, so I should be able to play most games OK at 1680X1050. Right now I'm looking at 2 models: the ViewSonic VX1940w and the HP L2045w.Thanks for any advice!19 or 20 Inch Monitor...
Why 19'' or 20'' when a 22'' inch cost about the same? I got this a couple weeks ago and love it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824112015 For a $170 shipped it is hard to beat. 19 or 20 Inch Monitor...
yeah i was gonna suggest u get the 22'' as well as 20'' inches are a bit to small.

Crossfire issues
I just got my 2nd HD4870 in today and installed it in Crossfire configuration. After my computer booted up it asked me if I wanted to enable crossfire and I checked the box next to it. I can also see 2 HD4870 cards in device manger. There are 2 problems though.1. When my computer first starts I can't see anything on the monitor till it asks for my login password (I'm using Vista 64 bit).2. I've only tried 2 games with it and Oblivion works ok, but the Crysis demo has problems. There is a major graphics problem with objects in the distance looking like there is a giant discolored shapes on them. I don't know how to describe it. Plus I can't really tell any fps improvement. Is there anything I can run to make sure my new Crossfire setup is actually working? Crossfire issues
2 things that come to mind,1) Is your PSU supplying enough power?2) Are your drivers upt-to-date?Maybe there is some other setting that needs tweaked with crossfire, i wouldn't know never used it..Can you take a screen of the discolouration?Crossfire issues

I went back and looked its more like objects in the distance appear and disappear like their flickering on and off.

Help me with a little problem
I posted this in another forum as well but I wondered if anyone here know's what's wrong..So for a while I've been having problems with My DVD drive. it is a:
Pioneer DVR-1810, 18x18 Maximum DVD writing Speed.
Basically when I plug it in, I cannot run disks from it in windows. When the disk is inserted it basically slows my computer down, Explorer stops responding until I remove the disk then my computer starts running normal again.
Why I ask though, is because I CAN install windows with it. I just did the other day, I plug in the drive install windows like normal, and it acts as if nothing is wrong. It only has problems when Windows is actually running. (windows xp BTW)
I also cannot run 2 hard drive from the same IDE cable either so I'm wondering whether it's a problem with my drive or my motherboard. Even though the 2 hard drives could simply be jumper settings I'm not sure..
Any help would be appreciated. Should I run out to Best Buy and buy a new drive or not. I don't want to if it's a problem with my mobo..
Thanks!

Would going from 1 X 4 GB's RAM to 2 X 2 ...
As the title says, I have 4 1GB's sticks of RAM in my computer at the moment, and running at their stock speeds (800 MHz) causes my computer to blue screen. But if I run them at 667 MHz the blue screens are gone, so if I installed 2 2GB sticks of RAM in my computer, would this fix the blue screens? (I think this is less stressful on the motherboard?)Would going from 1 X 4 GB's RAM to 2 X 2 ...

Can you Duel 2 different cards?
Im thinking about getting a Nvidia XFX 9800 GX2 at about $300. The problem os that I want to run 2 cards but I dont want to spend $600 worth on graphics card, so is there aa Good but cheap backup graphics card that you can put together with a 9800 GX2?Can you Duel 2 different cards?
No man, only two of the same. Here is my recommendation, get two 9800gt graphics cards and sli them. Buy extra cooling for each for about $30, and you got yourself a heck of a combination. Can you Duel 2 different cards?
microstutter much?? id go for 1 powerfull card like a gtx280
boo u cnt add two differnt cards in sli? i know u can do it with crossfire
You can... but only if they are Nvidia Cuda cards for example www.overclockers.co.uk are selling gaming setup's with a 9800GTX along with a 280GTX, how its done I'm not so sure but I do know its possible. The secoundary card i.e the 9800GTX overclockers used with their setup is soley being used as a PPU (physics processing unit, using CUDA)
i wonder if he even has a sli capable mobo??whats your mobo?

The 9800gx2 does micro stutter. With nvidia you cant go around using different cards, only in crossfire you can.

Can anyone recommend me a good custom PC ...
I'm comparing prices for the mac and PC and I want to custom build my PC. I want the PC ready at my door, I have no knowledge in building a PC and one micro mistake or spark, and my PC is terminated. Does anyone know any Custom built PC websites that are cheap on prices, Excellent on quality, and trustworthy? after hearing mix reviews, mostly bad about cyberpowerpc.com, Im not going to take my chances. Any alternatives? help =[Can anyone recommend me a good custom PC ...
building a PC really isnt as hard as it seems. you cant create a spark without electryicity, so just dont plug your half built PC in and your fine. as for mistakes, not really; computers are ALOT more durable then most people think, you can probably get away with dropping most parts on the floor (i wouldnt risk it) and you would PROBABLY be okay. Can anyone recommend me a good custom PC ...
building it yourself is the best but if you really want a pre built, look into www.digitalstorm.com
Thank you. well too look more into getting a PC or Mac. I'm also focusing on putting an animation software in it for my college. I might consider pre building it, but anymore Websites you recommend guys and girls?

You could build a computer with the 2600XT for around $550. It may seem hard, but it's not really. It took me less than an hour to build my first one. There's an innumerable amount of guides online in order to help you if you're intimidated.

How good is this mother board?
CLICK, and will it fit a Core2 Quad Q6600?How good is this mother board?
May I ask why you are getting a micro-atx mobo? A Q6600 will work on it, but you can get a much better mobo for significantly less money. How good is this mother board?
I'm just replacing my current motherboard unfortunate it's a micro atx it was a pre-buil computer, the case is only good for Micro-ATX motherboard. The reason im doing this is because my computers original motherboard is locked so I cant overclock my CPU, by replacing it I guessing the new motherboard will be unlocked?

WTF!? $170 on a G45 mobo :|.................dude no just no............there are Nvidia 7100 Intel motherboards for $50-80.
For $170, you could get an excellent P45 mobo and a nice Antec or Coolermaster case. I don't know why you would spend more on a m-ATX mobo to keep your crappy (no offense) HP case.

I don't know what card to choose. They are the 9800 GT or the ATI 4850. Which one will give me the better performance? Also I have a AMD CPU if that matters.Need help with GPU choice.

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/10/14/palit-xpertvision-radeon-hd-4850-sonic/6 in majority beside Cryisis a 4850 overclcoked is better then a 9800GTX+ . and you said 9800GT which is a 8800GTS with A little better performances in some case they mostly Equal and a little more Feature in video editing / Cuda = folding @tome / then 8800GTS
and if you spend a little more you can get a 260GTX which is better but if you don't play higher then 1280x1024. after 4850. it cpu that bottleneck you mostly from amd socket am2
4600x2 / 6400x2 compare to E7200 / E8400
but to be honest a good pc build of today is only 300$-350$ : e8400 + Motherboard it awsome price for what it give

Overclocking E6420 help
I have successfully overclocked from 2.14 to 2.88, stock cooling staying sice and cool. But, when I put the fsb to 360mhz, save, and restart it sets it down to 359mhz. I'm guessing that is the highest it wants to work. When I tried to set the fsb to 370 it didn't load windows. I upped the voltage from the stock 1.35 to 1.375 and it still didn't start windows. I restarted it and it reset itself down to 359 w/ stock volts. I also tried 365 fsb on stock voltage with the same result. Is it not going to work any higher or should I try 365 again with 1.375 volts?Overclocking E6420 help
You would raise voltage on the chipset as well as the CPU, also make sure the RAM isn't running at a ridiculous speed.Overclocking E6420 help
yeah, ram speed is killer, i took a while to realise my 800 mhz ddr2 was running at 1.12 ghz O_oand raise the FSB voltage control to 0.1

When is it time for a Windows reinstalll
I was wondering, when is a good time to reinstall windows. I mean I have been thinking about it, but its a pain to configure your computer all over again. What are symptoms to look at etc,When is it time for a Windows reinstalll
If your not having some specific problems that only seem fixable by re-installing, i'd say don't. Why are you thinking of re-installing? When is it time for a Windows reinstalll
Unless you have done something seriouse then you may not have to reinstall ever. Uninstall any programs you dont need to free up space, check for spyware/adware, clean up your registry, defrag your HDD and then you should be set. You only need to reinstall your OS if you make any major hardware changes (for example the mobo or something) or if you have somehow currupted windows. Even if you get a virus/trojan you can't remove, 9/10 you will be able to boot in safe mode and fix the problem.
How long has it been? XP right?
Its been around 6-8 months
You're fine, just run malware scans, defrag, check for registry issues, if it had been several years then i'd say ya go for it.
I only reinstalled because my GPU display drivers went haywire.. and other programs weren't functioning/starting up properly, after trying desperately to troubleshoot them. It's a last resort.
I do regular maintenance (defragging, registry, junk file cleaning) and what not. But, I think I have been having some performance issues (ingame stuttering). audio/video during loading stutters.Thats what I'm thinking about, apart from all that is their little I can do?soft lips

What needs upgrading?
Hi all, I've had this rig for a bit and I think its alright but I want to be able to enjoy the games. What hardware upgrades should I look at? I've had it for around a year excluding the graphicsd card which is quite new. My current rig:nVidia 8800gt 512MB2gb DDR2 ramE6600 CORE 2 DUOWhat needs upgrading?
Hmm.........what resolution, what games? Other than Ocing the CPU i don't really see a need to upgrade :? What needs upgrading?
So my processor is good?
Yeah, it's great :)The balance between the three things is fine - you'd probably need to upgrade all 3 to get any decent result from upgrading.
yeah... core 2 duo e6600 is still a good CPU, don't need to change itif you want to improve the performance just OC it to 3.0Ghzthe only upgrading, but if you want to high Far Cry 2 maybe try upgrade to Radeon 4870 or GTX260 216

Hey all,Need some help choosing which motherboard and brand/amount of RAM I should go with for my new build. My budget is around the $1,100 mark.So far, I'd chosen to SLI 2 Nvidia GeForce 8800GT's. I can get them for about $180 each. Also, I was thinking. What is better... buy a Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 for $211 and overclock it OR future-proof and get a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 for $399 (OR Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 $363).So I ask, I'm looking for a motherboard capable of running SLI, handling 4GB RAM (what type? You'r wish as being listen tell us where u live. so i can build from Country you are. il build it over gamespot community approve free to be changed by any other who as better deal then me tough i'm really decent into picking hardware for this year there thousand solution only few that are good 180$ each 8800GT is rip off for sli performances
you can get better build rig of video card for same value : 400$ : when your combine 180x2+tax. you could get a 280GTX that is better if you nvidia fan or 4870 1GB . or add 150$ more of ur current video card build
for 4870x2 but that would over-budget and restrain you to wait a month or Two Before you have enough money to do so it what i did suggest several people on gamespot to wait and get better piece when it does worth it tough but we must start to think of a rig
So If you'r there you said 1200$ ? let See. For cpu : motherboard : ram : hard Drive ? does ur is SATA II ? how much GB ?
OS : we may need a Vista because ur pc is probabely not a XP OEM (Xp that isn't from Pre-buidl pc) but the clean software
a Real XP can be changed to countless pc but it may require telephoen toll-free and speak to the machine
and enter the digit to switch it what i ad to do when i switched hardware from : my old amd athelon 4600x2 to E8600

Thanks for the reply. I'm from Australia btw. The rig is all for gaming, I barely use any heavy applications. For hard drive, SATA is fine (sorry, I don't know the difference between SATA and SATA II). I'm looking at 500GB space. OS won't be a problem, I have an XP OEM, but it's only 32-bit. Can you really see the difference between 32 and 64?With the CPU, I was wondering if I should grab a E8400 for $211.00 that can be safely overclocked to 4.23GHz. But I was still unsure whether I should just get a very good quad and leave it at that.Motherboards I have no idea about to be honest. Not my area to say the least. But for an Nvidia 790i FTW I'm looking at $415.00 and the X48 ranges from $252 to $450 depending on brand. With graphics.. I'm getting prices of $725.00 for the 4870x2. Compared to $180.00 for an 8800GT. So, what do you think now?

- we could get maybe
- Intel E8400 / E8500 165-200$
- X48 if ATI / Nforce 790i ftw EVGA for motherboard 200-350$
- DDR2 / DDR3 Depend of motherboard Solution would recommand DDR2 For Economy
- PSU from 750wats to 1K+ WATS engine 120-240$
- After market cooling if overclockign from 40-59.99
- case from 87$-200$
- hard Drive if not sata or can't be reused 75-85$ : 500GB / 640GB
- OS 125$ for Home premium 64 Bits
- video card will variate from 300$-550$ build as we can strech the more
I do Alway build pc like if it was my pc sorta it as to be good :P
unless you say this pc is not for gaming but heavy station working then id just asy Biggest cpu you can / cheapest motherboard / DDR2 in huge quantity or someting like that. if you aim good hardcore gaming il try to make it so you can enjoy it

Buying High End Laptop. Check the Specs
I have been researching for about two weeks now, putting together loads of different configurations and looking at alternatives. However it came down to either Alienware or Dell XPS, and after some extensive comparisons I concluded that the equivalent XPS is cheaper that an Alienware, but you can push the Alienwares further up the scale of performance but this come at top dollar which I don't have. To be perfectly honest I have always dreamed of having an Alienware, I think that is a shared wish for most of us, but to do it right costs just too much.Ok, so originally I settled on the WoW Edition of the M1730 as they have a deal going on right now which knocks about $600 off the price making it $2399 before taxes (free local shipping), but again after more research I saw just how much stuff comes with it that it got me worried about the shipping wieght. This being an issue since I use a forwarding address from the States for my internet orders and they charge by the LB.
By the way I would still be interested in this version of the M1730 if anyone had any info on the total shipping weight. So now I have turned my attention to the regular Edition of the M1730. After a little tweaking of the build this is what I have.PROCESSORIntel?CoreTM2 Duo T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB/6MB cache)

BATTERY OPTIONS85 WHr Lithium Ion Battery (9-cell)
SOUND OPTIONSIntegrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition That comes to about $2599 w/o taxes and $2869 with. The only difference between this and the WoW edition being the BD ROM drive which adds $200 to the price.
So what do you reckon, dig deeper and find out how much the shipping for the WoW edition will be and lose the BD Drive or keep the BD drive and get the one regular one.
Please dont go all internet forum idiot on me and say ''WoW is stupid, I hate it therefore so do you.....etc (pointless helpless rant)''.Anyway thanks for reading this far and I hope you can give some feed back.

Desktop replacement with a docking stati ...
I've been looking for a desktop replacement for my sister in the 1500 euro price range. I've been looking at the Asus G50V but she also wants that there's a docking station available for the laptop and I can't seem to find if the G50V has one. If it doesn't, could you kindly tell me the best solution?Or you could give me some good arguments to persuade my sister that she doesn't need a docking station.
Computer cases
Often overlooked, but nevertheless an important component of a decent PC. Are you satisfied with your case? What would be your ideal case? I was told Lian-Li cases are good, but pricey. Computer cases
I'm using a Cooler Master CM 690, great case, great price, great features, plenty of room, stylish, couldn't be happier.Computer cases
When looking for a case, there are several important things to consider. The first things I look for are cable management holes in the motherboard tray. Holes in the motherboard tray will make cable management a breeze. The next thing is PSU location. Most cases either have it at the top or bottom. I prefer to get a case with the PSU at the bottom because, in my experience, it makes cable management much easier and allows more exhaust out of the top of the case. Some other things to consider are how many fans can fit in the case, removable motherboard trays, brand, and construction material. That said, I really like Cooler Master, Antec, NZXT, Silverstone, and Lian-Li cases.
I've got the Cooler Master RC690, and I'm not overly happy with it. It's a great case for airflow and cable routing options are decent, but build quality is pretty low for a case of its price, and there's way too much plastic for my taste. The tooless mounting system isn't all that great either, especially for expansion cards (it's not that bad in the drive bays). Cable space behind the motherboard isn't all that great - a 24-pin ATX cable causes the side panel to flex outwards and not quite fit as well as I'd like, and the panels flex anyway adding to the cheap feeling of the case. The finish is a bit suspect as well, it's a bit grainy and not smooth. Most of these things won't affect a new builder though - but once you've workin a Lian-Li, Silverstone, or other high-end case it's hard to go back to one like this and be truly satisfied.
I use a ThermalTake Armour with the 250mm fan on the side (Maybe 240mm, can't remember). It's great airflow but cable management is baaad. Although it might just be I'm really bad at it. And it fits my W/C loop in nice and easy.
From what I learned, is that no matter how many case choices there are... They are always lacking something (at-least to me) and when you get it, something doesn't go to plan or is a disappointment.
Not true at all - most people just don't want to spend $300 to get a practically perfect case.
I'm a picky person. I like old school looks and not all the flashy stuff. I tried a tooless case this year and all I have to say is it was a waste of money.
I like the ease and organization of the stainless steel cases on the XPS computers!
I have had a Thermaltake Swing for a few years now. It has been a great case and for the $50 I paid for it I cant think of a negative thing about it (compared to other similar priced cases). I need to upgrade though, I had to take my hard drive cage out to get my 9800GTX in. So I ordered a Cooler Master CM 690 which I am looking forward to.
Coolermasters look nice, but i have a TT Tsunami dream, it's alright, i hate the bright blue LED in the front but there's a door i can close in front of it. The purple things that hold expansion cards in place are nice, but have been a PITA lately with huge video cards. There were a few things i hated so i ended up just tearing chunks off of it  I don't want to spend any money on just a case, it's just a case i'd rather spend it on hardware and at the time it was a $120 case :o I wish it were easier to route cables, i guess i'll have to ''mod'' it again and make holes behind the mobo tray.
i think if ii got a new one i'ld get a sleeker one with no window, either a silverstone or Lian-Li

Or reccomend me a better pair if there is one ? I would like to spend less than 300$. Or are the Medusa's worth it ?Thanks :PSurround sound headphones ??

If you want the Medusa, get the Home Edition. Razer Barracuda HP-1 5.1 it's a good option too.

Thick fans better?
So I'm going to buy some new fans and I've heard a rumour that a thicker fan is better than a thin one due to static pressure. Now I'm not going to pretend to understand static pressure because I'm too tired to go look it up atm.But the basic idea I got from a friend was because it's thicker it can push more air and suffers from less turbulance?Because I'm looking for some new fans but the ones I'm likely to be getting are going to be thinner than the ones I currently have. Same size, both 120mm, but the new one is probably going to be 2/3 or 1/2 the thickness. Thick fans better?
yes, it does matter, a 38mm thick fan will probably push more air than a 25Thick fans better?
yes, it does matter, a 38mm thick fan will probably push more air than a 25
What if they have similar CFM? Since I'm going for quiet fans. I was thinking of the hiper hiperflow fans or the nexus real quiet fans. But I'm definatly replacing my case 120mm, and case 92mms (92mm with red wings) was wondering if I should go for thick ones (my current are thick, or the well known quiet ones which are quiet.
yes, it does matter, a 38mm thick fan will probably push more air than a 25
not neccessaraly, my silverstone fm121 is thinner than the generic fans in my case and pushes about 3times more air. 115cfm vs 32cfm
Even if two fan have similar CFM, they could have differing pressures. Both are two seperate things. While thickness is a big contributor of pressure, fan blade design plays a part in it.When it comes to fans i usually like to read up on it from silentpcreview.com since they have some of the best fan testing methodologies.
If you were to measure the amount of air the fan pushes at neutral pressure, IE nothing in front of the fan, nothing behind it, a 100cfm 25mm fan and a 100cfm 38mm fan will push the same air. But if you put something that would restrict airflow, like the fins of a heatsink in front or behind the fans, the 38mm fan WILL push more air.Hope that helps
Thicker is allways better. ;)
You mean the blades? :? Or the size, i have no idea...................
well think... id go for a good quality thicker cause if i accidently hit the fan its less likely to break unlike some of the thinner ones

On heatsinks/radiators, 38mm fans are the way to go. For case fans, 25mm units are just fine.

Lose the 9500GT, its garbage.
I didn't notice that 8800GTS I showed you was used, it's a detail that can slip away easily.Anyway, I'd get this. And take the PSU another person posted as well. You'd be nicely set with these.

Is My New RAM Working Correctly?
I just purchased 2GB (2 sticks of 1GB each) and put them in the 2 slots I had left on my vista computer. When I go to system properties it says I have 3.00GB which would be correct. Most things seem to run faster. But thing is when I go to Can You Run It for the game Crysis, it says fail and only recognizes me as having 1023GB. So do you think the new RAM is running properly or not?Is My New RAM Working Correctly?
It should be working properly; if it says that it has allocated the total amount of RAM that you have, eg; 3GB of RAM availiable or something like that, it should work. Somethings just act a bit weird anyway. like my game Command %26 Conquer (TM) Generals (R), I check the EASY Info program that comes with it and it says my speed is '' -1333mhz '' but my Dual CPU is 2.93GHz, Great for most games. I immedietly knew it was a glitch; because negetive speeds are impossible.unless you are going back in time or something. Try running a different diagnostic program. Is My New RAM Working Correctly?
I could only wish I had 1023GB of RAM.
Alright. That's good to know. I figured it should be working correctly if my system info says i have 3.00GB. Must be a glitch with the can you run it program.
Well I just tried MemTurbo diagnostic program and it only recognizes me as having 1022MB. What's going on here? My system says 3.00GB but every other program says around 1GB?
You sure the sticks are inserted AND arranged properly in their banks.
Try playing a game that the minimum requirements say 1.5GB of RAM, if it's choppy, there may be a problem.
Well I don't know if they are arranged properly. When I got this computer the guy that sold it to me put in another GB and he put it in the 3rd slot. So the first and 3rd were tooken up. So this time around with the 2GB I put them in the 2nd and 4th slots. The 4 slots are divided into two colors- 2 orange, and 2-purpleish. If that might help?
You need to just push the memory into the slots, you should here the clack sound, it means the memory is in place. You can go into your bios when your computer is booting up also, that will tell you your memory.
NO. Absolutly not. Do Not shove them into there. that is how you break it. Unlock the slot, then gently ease the RAM stick into the slot then lock it in.
NO. Absolutly not. Do Not shove them into there. that is how you break it. Unlock the slot, then gently ease the RAM stick into the slot then lock it in.
That's what I did, idk. Maybe they are in the wrongs slots. I just don't wanna screw anything up.
What was does your memory say on POST or in your BIOS? Might also check task manager and see what your total ram is listed as.
You got the right ram for your mobo right?Cause if you didn't it wouldn't show up or work properly.
You do have to givem a good amount of force to get them into the slots. They should click like Gamerkat said. Although that still doesn't explain why Vista says 3 gigs.
I could only wish I had 1023GB of RAM.
Yeah i wish i had 1023GB of ram also

Well task manager says total memory= 1022MB. So basically 1GB. But system properties still says 3GB. Wth?

Yeah i wish i had 1023GB of ram also
cpu-z is ur friend.
Well task manager says total memory= 1022MB. So basically 1GB. But system properties still says 3GB. Wth?

I would be running at 1680x1050 w/ a C2D E8400. The games I really want to run maxed out are Mass Effect, Oblivion, Far Cr2, and X3: Terran Conflict. I'm trying to save a bit of cash by getting a 4850, but is the extra $100 worth it to get the 4870? Probably not maxed out but you could have FCII on good settings.
For that resolution get the HD4870.
The HD4870 is probably going to offer significantly better performance in the long run at that resolution.I'd also avoid the StealthXStream and GameXStream line of power supplies. Too many users have had problems with them, and tests have show than their +12v rail is subject to excessive ripple under heavy load.I'd also get 4GB of RAM - you can get that for around $20 more than that 2x1GB kit if you stick with DDR2 800, which is a nice upgrade given the price.
well with that being the case how would i par with 2 4850s in crossife and to answer your question if u can spend the extra money get the 4870
4870 if you are a serious gamer, if you just want to play a few games the 4850.

usb modem on a router?
Hi guys. My dad is thinking of changing our Internet provider to a much faster one, the problem is that they provide thei service through a portable USB modem. I磎 worried it won磘 work with my linksys router since it only has ethernet ports. Would it work if I bouby ght a usb to serial(ethernet) cable and connected the modem to my router through it?edit: the modem is 3G, the router is a wrt54gs. Ill also be happy if you recommend any possible solutions, new router maybe?usb modem on a router?
I don't see why not that's what those adapters are made, for, i take it you need multi PC's frm the router?

It's low end by todays standards, would strugle with Crysis, should play @ low @ 1024 x maybe some med, has good overclocking potential though.

Ok I have farcry2 and yes its a legit copy. So I got the latest updated drivers and even downloaded the hotfx. Now im running the game in DX10 at 1680 X 1050 res, everything very high, and no AA. Yet I get piss poor performance. The game was running quite well into the first mission. Then as I was on my way back to collect my pay it all ov a sudden started running like crap. It would literally stall out for a couple seconds and start to move slowly at like 4 FPS. Then there are times where its at like 45FPS and then it will jump to 20 or 10 FPS in a second when I hadnt even dont anything. Now I have experieced this same problem with Clear Skies not to long ago. I havent played it in awhile since the problem continues to occur. At first I thought it was just the game. NOw im starting to think it my GPU. In DX9 it seems to run fine. Like I run games like Mass Effect and the witcher quite well. With good FPS most of the time. There has to be something wrong with my card. I seen benchmarks for my card with the same exact settings I am using for Farcry2 and I should be Avg. between 30-50FPS. Anyone have any ideas on why I am having these problems???This shouldnt be happening(4870)
i get 35 fps on optimal setting in dx 10. my copy isnt legit but i dont think thats the problemThis shouldnt be happening(4870)

I do some more tests as well between DX9 and Dx10. I just find it funny that when ever I run DX10 games they will run good and then all of a sudden they start to bug out and becomes a slideshow like every 10 seconds. Then it will be fine for awhile. Like walking around in FC2 would slow down yet when I got into a heated gun battle it didnt hick up one bit. Thanks for the advice though. I may have to contact the company to see if there is a problem with the card.
UPDATEWell I decided just to try and play farcry2 again. I played it in windowed mode wo I could see what the catalyst control center was doing so I could watch its activity. So I played the game for a solid 2 hours or so without a hickup. Then all of a sudden it started to massivly slow down and jump up and down in FPS. Now I looked at the CC while this was happening and it was showing that there was 0% activity when I was gettin these massive slow downs. So if this helps anyone to find out what my problem could be it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the help.
off topic :p but how can i setup my Rigs specs liek u guys have have with a pic and the wording inside of it

ummm 4870s have a fan control in CCC with Catalyst 8.10. I run my stock HSF 4870s in crossfire overclocked @ 780/1100 @ 40% fanspeed and I never go over 75c. Thats in Crysis and Gears of War too. Im sure if I wanted it at 50% I could drop that to below 70%

DX10 does run better thsn DX9 in far cry 2 but for some reason, with some people dont know why when you start DX10 it will either go into a window or run choppy and if you try to maximise it in anyway it will go black, freeze briefly and close or with you provide poor performance

Build a PC under $1000
Well im done with this stupid compaq from 2001. no upgrades to it. cant play Guild Wars anymore because it crashes. has not even 1GB of RAM or anything. i swear its the worst pc ive ever had.But I'd like to get rid of it. But my family uses it and they dont want to part with it at all. And im a gamer and I really want to play Team Fortress 2 and i want to play Guild Wars again. So on the TF2 board, they told me to come here for help.Im looking for a pc that could run TF2 and GW and all this cool stuff for under $1000. But im a complete n00b to computers and you guys make me feel small with you gtx.947 and core duo stuff that im lost :/I can get a monitor from my neighboor, he wont mind giving me his 30 inch for free, hes a great guy, but its just the pc for tf2 GW, crisis, SPORE,COD4 and all these cool games are out of my reach because i am clueless to building computers. So please PC Hardware Discussion Forum People- Help me build a PC!PleaseBuild a PC under $1000
30'' for free? Well i guess you can play the games letterboxed :? You'll need serious horsepower for a 30''
E7300- $120
4GB RAM- $80
Decent 5-600W Enermax, FSP, Corsair, Seasonic, Silverstone PSU - $100+
Decent size Western Digital or Seagate HDD-$80
SATA DVD drive - $30
Asus/Gigabyte/Biostar P45 mobo - $130+
HD4870 or GTX260 core 216 - $300
Do you have an OS already?
Whatever case Build a PC under $1000
if you talka bout 30 inch 2560x1600 youw ill need eral horse power
anyway il tell you a better deal Replace E7300 by E8400 for 40$ more
Stick same number of ram that my mate X360PS3AMDd05 say
decent size hdd = 80$
SATA dvd drive is defintyl 30$
A P45 mobo = if you don't crossfire according ur not playing higher then 1280x1024 then avoid Crossfire i guess
if you seek Crossfire Get X48 For Gaming
The Video card Depend of resolution you'r gonna play
1680x1050 = get someting decent for all high
1920x1200 no choice to lower setup unless crossfire / 4870x2 / Sli Setup
2560x1600 LOL good luck :D that thing is hell consumation :D
if under 1280x1024 stick wtih HD4870 1G Edition or GTX 260 Core 216
Else Econmy money and buy ur Self a 4870x2 / or SLi 260GTx / Sli 280GTX there many Setup as long you do play higher then 1280x1024 then you should think about 4870x2 or multiple card after-times Before they get Revisioned / Shrinked
Or ul have to buy Trough ebay
Yup for native res. he'll need 4850x2 or 4870x2, but those are $450 and $550 :o
yep it why econym money if you play on 2560x1600 :
else play on 1920x1200 lowered gameplay Experiancew with single card you barely can get 35fps+ on most of game at max setting for 2008 it why it impossible to play most of game of new Without Two Card unless you'r playing WoW / Lineage II
with 60fps + but it still playable 35fps. it just depand of ur budget if you can save more money and get better piece or get straigh to the gaming with a video card X360 mentioned
Wouldn't usually reccomend eday, but this is a terrific deal right now, and you wouldn't have to worry about building it if you're new to the concept.Rig

Not that this will be any better than a pre-built, but if you're not comfortable building yourself, you could always get this.
1. Learn proper English2. Reccomend me a desktop for the same price with more power. He may not want to build himself, so this is a very good bargain for the price. I personally prefer building, but if he doesn't want to, I'm not going to reccomend a $2000 Dell with the same specs.
I dont know alot about Pcs and stuff but when you say BUILD a Pc am i wiring it and stuff, or am I just buying parts for a computer.Like say i buy a $400 dell. I buy new RAM,video card, etc. And im good to go?
you can make ur won if you want real power it easy. you can even have some shop to build it for you for 30$ if you'r in uninted state or canada there mujst be pc build shop around or you can follow the step pretty good else try find a good deal on ebay or someting. i donno where to search for pre-build with a good E8400 / Video card cause for that 700$
youd have better
If youve never built your own it may be good to find a local computer store that you feel is hones or something and go in and talk to whoever works there and ask them any questions. My biggest tip is HONESTY, you may pay a little more but if you know what you need you can go somewhere else.Ive looked up some basics and im not an expert but this will get you startedI do know that your best bet is to buy your CPU and your board together to avoid any confusiona board with cpu can run from $100-500 Heres an EVGA nForce 780i SLI ATX Board with Intel Core 2 quad-$420 Youll need Memory heres Corsair - Value Select 1GB PC5300 DDR2 SoDIMM Notebook Memory for $51 (you may want two so) $102. Video Card, Diamond Radeon HD 4870 XOC Video Card-$270Power Supply, Corsair TX750W 750-Watt Power Supply - ATX, 140mm Fan, SLI-Ready, SATA-Ready-$110DVD Drive, HP dvd1035i DVD Writer (Retail) -$25Cases, No recomendation what ever you think is cool but ill put in a price-$75Your total Price-$951 for the basics still need a few odds and ends, hard drive and some cable can be picked up cheap hope this helps and this isnt what you have to get this is just something i put together and i think that every thing matches together.
ripopff gthe cpu and mobo combo you can get E8400 + P45 for less money that kill 780i in the nut and for 30$ more you can get or same money a 1GB 4870 That is far better then XOC
psu they are good price : Dvd Driver good price : case CM 690 / Antec 900 / 75-120$
motherboard P5Q P45 Id say + E8400 350$ / 320$

the 1GB edition is better for several reason
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/10/22/zotac-geforce-gtx-260-amp2-216-edition/7
i think even non 1280x1024 it good but it shown much better on 1080P i'm not a true specialist in how work 4870 512meg oc vs 1GB but apparently 1GB is better or Zotac %26 EVGA OCX or zotac 260GTX 216 c0re edition amp2 / OR max core for around 280-320$US
30'' monitor wow you are going to need more than one GPU for that
he said typo meant 20 inch.
Well here in minnesota i dont know where a computer store isbut in lakeville a couple miles away at a store called ''world of games'' they sell, buy, ad rent games and are computer specialist.do you think they would have any idea?
